Being active in developing, maintaining and protecting our wellness is an effective strategy to elevate physical and mental strain. However, taking care of yourself and being aware of the pennies can be difficult. But self-care does not have to cost much. Taking care of you can be done in a variety of ways, and the best thing is – they don’t have to cost much at all!
Here are some ways to incorporate self-care, while being on a budget –
Having regular medical check-ups is a great way to get started. Being aware of your general health and empowering yourself with the confidence and right information can encourage future healthy behaviours which can prevent illness from occurring, physical and mental.
Although it’s called self-care, this does not mean that you cannot partake in something with another person. A spa day to relax or a home workout with a friend to stimulate some brain chemicals which make us feel happier and less anxious. The spa can also happen at home, with some homemade face or hair masks, leaving you feeling fresh and replenished.
There are some really useful apps available to help you unwind, meditate or monitor your wellbeing: – Headspace – Clue (period tracking) – My possible self – Sleep cycle – Beat panic – Be Mindful – Affirmation pod
Learning a new skill has been shown to increase self-confidence and make you feel good about yourself. When you know something thoroughly and are confident about your knowledge of the subject, you feel a personal sense of satisfaction.
Communication is a great way to feel connected to your loved ones, but instead of using social media or texts, pick up your phone and call them or meet up! Technology and social media are really taking over and changing the way we live our lives. The rapid growth of social media over the last decade has established an entirely new medium for human interaction but having regular personal contact with people allows us to remember that we are valued and needed, it’s easy to feel alone and worthless, but we are love and we are loved.
These are just a few ways to keep yourself feeling loved and important, sometimes we need to remind ourselves, just how great we really are. It’s so important to look after yourself and do whatever you can to promote a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically, because we can all suffer from poor health from time to time, and nobody is immune, whatever your pay grade!
